The Council decided to establish a literature prize for Children's literature and literature for Teenagers. The prize is designed to support authors writing for this audience.
But also, the aim is to promote young people's literature in and between Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. For a candidate, the prize means free translation into the other two West-Nordic countries and into one Scandinavian language.
It is important that young readers have an opportunity to read literature from our neighbouring countries.
The Prize of DKK 60,000 will be awarded every other year, starting in August 2002 on the West Nordic Council's Annual Meetings.
Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands will nominate one candidate each. The books will then be translated and the winner is announced subsequently.
